We all know the phrase. When life gives you lemons, make lemonade. The message is short and sweet (pun intended), but life doesn’t give you the recipe for that particular lemonade when you’re in the moment. Many times were left trying to figure it out as we go.
In response to COVID-19, I’ve seen parents become teachers, teachers reach out to kids in new ways, and businesses completely flip their business models in a matter of days or even hours. In the midst of adversity, so many people in our community have stepped up to the challenge and reacted to these problems in new and innovative ways. What could be cause for panic has instead become the catalyst for creativity. If this pandemic has taught us anything, it’s taught us the collective power of humanity, the huge reach of social media, the tenacity of business owners, and the goodness of the human heart.
So while my heart goes out to the kids that miss school or the healthcare workers that are on the frontlines, I also want to praise the small businesses that have shown so much grit and creativity. For some it meant building out a website in lightning speed or installing a to-go window where there was once only a wall. For me, it meant creating an iPhone master class for the artist in all of us or offering beautiful yard signs for families to celebrate their graduating senior.
This virus was a ginormous lemon. A basket full of sour, life-changing, stop-you-in-your-tracks lemons. But I’m so amazed at all of the sweet lemonade that I’m seeing everyday. Drink up friends. 🍋
